Level 9 - Chapter Complete

Weekly Report 9 10/15/18 - 10/21/18

Preparing for the interview this week took up a significant portion of the energy that was available. But now that it is over, it is a rather warming thing.

From the cold call on Friday to the drive home on Thursday, the entire process was filled with excitement but also tension. The anxiety-to-smoothness ratio of the procedure as a whole was higher than the process admittedly justified. However, as was discussed in last week’s report, the endeavor should be easier the second time. For now, though, there is an element of joy that the interview went as planned and that the answers that were received were insightful and worthy of consideration. It seems like a completed chapter in an RPG.

For the next interview, there are two main goals: to inquire more specifically about certain technical details and to speak more smoothly and audibly during the interview. It is unlikely that the next interview will be conducted this coming week (although the same prediction was made last week, and here is what actually happened), but the latter of the two motivations can be realized through experience on the phone. There is just the matter of being able to locate another number or two.

The other notable thing that developed this week is my conception of a possible original work for the remainder of the semester. It was a bit of a struggle at first because on one hand, it has been shown through repeated research that the one way to lay a “foundation [...] for further learning or future career” in game development is to make a game, but on the other hand, simply sitting and making one game is far too broad a project and not very evaluative. A “solution” came about, however, during a casual scroll through YouTube, when a thumbnail in the suggestions feed allowed me to rediscover the term “minimum viable product”, which turned into the basis of the original work proposal for this week. This project will be one more thing to look after in a growing pile of inquiries which will deserve some energy.
