Level 6 - Shake 10 Hands (100%)

Updated: Dec 9, 2018

Weekly Report 6 9/24/18 - 9/30/18

Last week there was the image of an unfinished side quest sitting in the menus of an RPG game. This week, there is an image of a finished one.

The number of people who were receptive to the handshake was approximately my originally estimated amount. There were people who failed to notice me or failed to give a proper handshake, but they were few. In the end, the seven additional shakes have been a significant step in the development of a true, professional approach to conversation in-person. I even found myself giving handshakes outside of the context of ISM. This is a trend that should continue in the coming weeks.

Although the handshakes were completed with resounding success and confidence, the cold calls were not. Or, rather, the cold call, because there was only one. This is perfectly fine, though; since other students had called Game Circus and learned about their unfortunate resource crunch, there was an expectation that they would refuse an interview, and although I found myself not quite thinking as quickly as necessary to pull off a confident conversation, at least it happened with Game Circus, who was bound to say no. That is the principle behind “Fail faster”. Next week, there will be more cold calls and they will be better than the one with Game Circus - not perfect, just better.

Looking back, the call on Game Circus was flawed in that when the receptionist explained their situation, there was not a ready reply on my end in enough time for the conversation to continue. It is clear to me that the ISM Business Symposium will be the perfect opportunity to practice speaking professionally without preparation. It will be my goal for the next week to build the verbal skillset necessary on the phone at Independence High School, where the space feels more safe.

Additionally, the digital portfolio is seeing progress. However, it is true that the work ethic involving the project could be improved. Since the digital portfolio is currently not on pace to be completed by the deadline, next week will also need to see an increase in speed regarding that assignment.

LEVEL CLEAR.
