Weekly Report 25 3/18/19 - 3/24/19
As the Final Product has been progressing, more thought has been put on where exactly this project fits in my growing tale of game development experience. With the passing of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, upcoming titles have been at the forefront of attention. Anticipated titles such as Hollow Knight: Silksong, Super Mario Maker 2, Bug Fables, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Sable, etc. have been creating internal hype more so than in previous months, which indicates a growing interest in the medium. Soon, the day will come when there will be a similar growing involvement in the medium as well, but this academic project will not be the breakthrough which causes that to happen.
In any case, ISM opportunities are the optimal time to practice the professionalism and communication skills necessary to start that involvement later in life with the best possible energy. During the mentor visit this week, the professionalism expressed was suboptimal, which will need to be remedied for the next visit. The aspects of professionalism should not be forgotten as focus is placed on the Final Product, and the beginning of thought on the Final Presentation will likely bring this focus back.
The Final Product has truly allowed my love for games to grow, as vocalization about the project has created an internal need to know what other titles are arriving at around the same time. However, with that love needs to come some responsibility, and in future pursuits in ISM, that professionalism can be better solidified.
