Level 19 - The New Marathon

Weekly Report 19 1/28/19 - 2/3/19

February 1st marks the beginning of a four-month span of time in which the Final Product will make its way from the ground up to become something real. So far, the first week of pre-production has been fairly productive - the current pace will allow all of the proposed deliverables to be achieved on Wednesday. Keeping up the pace in the coming months will be a goal that, while very difficult, will be readily achievable with the right amount of prerequisite planning. This will come down to learning how to break up the seemingly endless list of tasks for the game (and I will inevitably underestimate the number of tasks left to complete) and learning how to best utilize the burndown chart received during the mentor visit and a Trello board to manage progress. Also, so far the problems that have been solved were not incredibly difficult, but down the line there are some algorithmic challenges that I can anticipate to be somewhat difficult to approach - these are the problems which the mentorship exists to help solve. The mentorship is also good for keeping the process flowing with procrastination being contained by the concept of accountability, without which all of these things could be conceived but rarely fully accomplished.

Besides the Final Product which has been so central on my mind, there was also progress being made on the Original Work presentation on the side. The idea of an eighteen minute presentation, while daunting due to inexperience, does not seem overly outlandish, as while it is true that TED talks generally fall within that time frame, GDC talks are generally much longer. The only part that will need to happen is to make sure that work on the Final Product will not hinder my ability to rehearse the presentation several times to provide a strong delivery on presentation day.
